NB: Kosi Bay/Farazela border post between South Africa and Mozambique
opens at 08h00 and closes at 17h00 daily.
Directions
for Gauteng visitors:
The
shortest and most direct route for travelling from Gauteng is on the N2
via Ermelo and turning off before Mkhuze for the Kosi Bay border post
via Jozini and Kwanganase. However the N17 and the N2 between Bethal and
Piet Retief are in a bad state and extensive road works are only expected
to be completed by September 2012. At times there are as many as seven
Stop/Go controls on this route, often with delays of up to 20 minutes
at each stop. In the meantime it is recommended that motorists travelling
to Bethal detour on the R35 as far as Morgenzon and then get on the R39
for Ermelo. After Ermelo it is recommended to detour on the R65 to Amsterdam
and then proceed to Piet Retief on the R33.
About 10kms before reaching Mkhuze exit the N2 and take the
road to Jozini. Continue on this road, through Kwangwanase till reaching
the Kosi Bay Border.
Tartaruga is about 665 kms from Johannesburg.
The
town of Kwangwanase (formerly known as Manguzi) is a good place to do
last-minute shopping at the large Spar on the main road. The Border post
is a further 17 kms after the town.
If you do not have a 4x4, park your vehicle at the secure parking on the
South African side.
Once you have completed the border formalities take the sandy road to
the left, following any signage for Ponta Malongane/Ponta Mimoli or the
blue signs for Tartaruga Maritima for about 13 kms. The tented camp is
inside Kangela Estates.
Kindly report at Reception on arrival.
